The Val Senales enchants its guests with fascinating and untouched mountain scenery
Hiking and Nordic Walking in the Texel-Group Nature Park, on ancient “Waal”-Ways or to the discovery site of “Ötzi”, the Iceman. Trekking on the Merano High Mountain Trail, guided high-alpine tours to the surrounding mountains (up to 3000+ meters), like the “Similaun” and the “Palla Bianca” – these are just some highlights of an unforgettable hiking experience along more than 240 km of hiking trails in Val Senales. In ancient farms and pastures, you can taste homemade delicacies and learn centuries-old traditions and customs of rural life. Climbing fans will definitely find challenges of any level in the two climbing parks. Other great activities, such as cycling, rafting, horseback riding, golf, mini golf, fishing, etc. can all be found in Senales or nearby.
The Oetzi Glacier Tour in Schnalstal Valley is operative all-year round. In summer, it functions as a guided hike while in winter it works as a ski mountaineering tour led by experienced local guides. Led by experienced local guides, hikes start from Maso Corto/Kurzras every Tuesday to the Tisenjoch ridge at 3,200m a.s.l., the place where Oetzi the ice mummy was discovered. After crossing the Hochjochferner Glacier and reaching the summit, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular view of the northern face of the Similaun mountain.
To be able to take part in the 8-hour Oetzi Glacier Tour in the Schnalstal Valley, hikers need to be sure-footed and have a high level of physical fitness. However, no prior high mountain hiking experience is necessary.
THE TRANSHUMANCE
The Val Senales, however, has to offer yet another spectacular event: the annual sheep drive of the Senales and the Venosta farmers over the main alpine ridge to the summer pastures in the Ötztal Valley in Austria. Every year, this nature spectacle draws thousands of visitors and locals in its spell.
